The museum was founded in
1989. Thorough work of a group of enthusiasts, who has collected and
systematized historical data over three hundred years, preceded the
museum.
The exposition of the museum is dedicated to the farmers’ life-style,
local nature, the fate of the town during World War II, and to the
people whose life was indispensable from the town development.
The
history of the museum is closely connected with the history of education
and enlightenment in Zavodoukovsk. At the end of the XIXth century, a
primary school was opened here on donations of the Tyumen merchant V.
Kolmakov. An agricultural museum was founded at the school, which was an
outstanding event for a deep provincial district.
In 1935 the first secondary school was opened. The teachers of the
school were the first to undertake efforts to compile a collection of
local exhibits, and to get the history of the town systematized. The
museum contains the names of those selfless people.
In 1989 a decision was taken to found the Zavodoukovsk local museum, but
the newly-founded museum had no premises of its own. In 1994 a wooden
house in the central part of the town, on Sibirskaya street, was given
up to the museum.
Over the first years of functioning the museum staff had been collecting
exhibits out of the archives in Tyumen, Tobolsk, Omsk, and Ekaterinburg.
A lot of new exhibits were provided by the local residents. The museum’s
archive contains rare photos, historical documents, and arts pieces
related to the history of Zavodoukovsk.
