In 1918 the Soviet regime was established in Yalutorovsk. During the Civil war the town frequently became a scene of the fierce battles. Though in August 1919 the power was ultimately won by the Bolsheviks. Over a short periods major industries in the town were nationalized. Among them were a Danish-Sweden joint venture on butter supplies, a steam meal, and a vine plant. In 1921 the vicinities of Yalutorovsk like many other territories in Siberia were involved in a farmers rebellion resulted from nationalization of the farmers’ land plots and heavy surplus expropriation. The rebellion reached such peaks that the town was virtually in a state of siege. During the NEP (new economic policy) period some growth in industrial production was registered. Nationalized enterprises were put into operation. In 1921 a co-operative of invalids ‘Equality’ was organized that manufactured varied products. In 1932 a plant for dried milk was set in operation. In 1934 a timber plant was built that became a major element of the town economics. During the World War II many companies in Yalutorovsk, at which mostly women were employed, produced supplies for the front. The co-operative ‘Sewer’ manufactured soldier’s blouses and overcoats. In 1942 a famous poetess Julia Drunina went to the front from Yalutorovsk. A lot of Yalutorovsk residents excelled at the front, and six of them were awarded with the highest award, a title of the hero of the Soviet Union.
