Russia there is special place for the heavenly patron of an ancient town
of Great Ustyug Saint Prokopiy (+ 8.07.1303). The German by origin, it

selected one of hardest and greatest feats of Christian piety –the role
of Holy fool. The first holy fool in Russia, he became famous for his
numerous miracles, major of which - rescue of Ustyug from destruction by
a stone cloud, he was canonized at the Holy meeting of 1547. Saint
Prokopiy is hold in esteem in Ustyug’s land. Glorification of Ustyug’s
wonder-maker began long before his canonization by Russian Orthodox
Church. In 1471 on the bank of the river Sukhona, near Assumption
cathedral of Saint Virgin, above his burial place Ustyug’s warriors
constructed wooden church - gratitude for rescue from heavy illness
during their campaign to Nizhniy Novgorod. This temple, consecrated
after the names of princes Boris and Gleb and great martyr George
Victory-maker, was burned down, and on its place in 1495 Ustyug’s
military people erected new one which was consecrated in honor of
Prokopiy of Ustyug.
