Stepan Ivanovich Kolokolnikov

Among those merchants who
were involved in social and philanthropic activities, the Kolokolnikovs
family held a specific position. The patriarch of the dynasty, the
first-guild merchant Ivan Kolokolnikov was famous for his tea trade
monopoly at the largest in Siberia Irbit fair. His business contacts
were spread far outside Russia. In 1895 the Kolokolnikovs’ company was
inherited by the elder son Stepan Ivanovich. Apart from varied business
activities Stepan Kolokolnikov got known for his great contribution to
public education in Tyumen. On his means a female gymnasium, a
Zatyumenski public college, and a Commerce college with eight-form
curriculum were organized. After the October revolution the
Kolokolnikovs family emigrated from Russia.
