Eugeni
Vassilievich Bogdanovich (1828-1914)

Eugeni Bogdanovich had a
noticeable impact upon Tyumen’s life at the end of the XIXth and the
beginning of the XXth centuries.
Eugeni Bogdanovich was born in 1828 in the family of the nobility.
Having graduated from the Marine military school he became an office in
the Russian fleet. Afterwards he continued his career at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of Russia. In 1866 he put forward an idea that
Ekaterinburg and Tyumen should get connected with a railway road. The
idea got an active support on the part of the merchants who were deeply
interested in a trade seller’s market in Tyumen. Due to active
co-operation of the citizens of Tyumen, 26 thousand of roubles were
collected for survey research. Over a half of this amount was
contributed by Bogdanovich himself. By the end of 1866 pioneering works
had been accomplished. Though it took over twenty extra years for the
first train to arrive in Tyumen. In 1867 Eugeni Bogdanovich was honoured
with the title ‘A Honorary citizen of Tyumen’.
