History and People

Outstanding people who
played a great role in Tobolsk development are presented widely in
memorial expositions of the museum.
The initial insight into the history of Siberian development can be
obtained at the Ermak’s exposition. Every exhibit seems to personify
almost physically the presence of the legendary ottoman and his warriors.
The exposition presents guns and arquebuses, hauberks and bludgeons of
that time. Presented are also some portraits of Ermak pained by unknown
artists of XVIII-XIX centuries. Surely, his real appearance can not be
known for certain, so these portraits were created as a collective image
created by the posterity.

There exists an exposition
dedicated to the famous fairy teller Piotr Ershov, which contains his
personal belongings. The other exposition presents family relics of the
Decembrist Fonvisin. Among them are the portraits of the Fonvizin’s sons
Dmitri and Michail, who were left by their mother in care of their
relatives, so that she could follow her husband to Siberia.
