The majority of industrial constructions of Ust-Borovskiy salt factory was constructed in 80-90th of XIX century. Towers for salt solution lifting were constructed above the wells drilled to get salt solution from under the ground. Depth of wells was about 170 meters. First salt solution was lifted from the well by means of the horse-drawn (later it was replaced by steam traction) pump. By a special trench the welled out salt solution went from salt solution lifting towers in a salt chest. Here the salt solution stayed before going to salt-digesting device. In salt-digesting device, as a result of boiling salt solution firm crystals of salt were formed. Digesting of one salt part proceeded continuously for about one day. Ready the salt was stored in the barns located on the bank of Kama. There from it was loaded on the barges going to large trading cities on Kama and Volga.

From the very beginning of its work Ust-Borovskaya salt factory became one of the largest in Prikamye. To the middle of 1880th more than one million poods of salt was annually produced. At the end XIX - beginning of XX century the factory was owned by Alexander Ryazantsev's heirs. After October revolution the factory was nationalized and in 1919 became a part of trust "Permsalt". During the existence within the Soviet authority the industrial complex of the factory has not undergone essential changes. Except for insignificant modernizations, the technologies of salt production of XVII - XIX centuries continued to be used . After Ust-Borovskiy salt factory was closed down in 1972, under the initiative of city authorities, scientists and regional specialists there work on creation of memorial estate began. Now the Museum of history "Salts of Russia" is a unique example of history of Russian industrial culture.
