The Author of the book ‘Barankin, Be a Good Lad’

The author of this popular book Valeri Marinin (1923-1997), known under the nickname Valeri Medvedev, was born in Ishym. In 1940 Medvedev entered the producer department of the State cinema Institution (GITIS). During the war his study was suspended. Upon graduation he worked in the Mossoviet theatre, and was a film actor. In 1957 Medevedev became a children’s writer. His book ‘Barankin, Be a Good Lad’ was translated into 25 languages, and was awarded with a diploma at the Hans Hristian Andersson International competition. An animated cartoon, a theater performance, and a music show were created under this book. Apart from children’s stories, Medvedev is known as an author of texts for Leonid Utessov, Klavdia Shulzhenko, and Arkadi Raikin.
