World War II

The tragedy of the war
touched, in this or that way, every town and countryside in Russia. The
streets of Ishym can serve as a vivid evidence of this, though a small
provincial town was situated thousand kilometers away from the front.
There are memorial plates on many houses telling that evacuated
hospitals were located there. A lot of wounded soldiers ended their
lives here. A number of plants were evacuated to Ishym that manufactured
products for the front. Many Ishym citizens were the War heroes.
In 1941 the 65th infantry division dislocated in Ishym was sent to the
front, and took part in liberation of the city of Tichvin. The division
was awarded by the Order of the Red Banner, by the Order of Suvorov and
by the Order of the Red Star.
A tragic fate was destined for 384th and 229th divisions that were
formed in Ishym. In 1941-42 they fought at Leningrad and on the Don
river. The majority of soldiers of these divisions did not come back.
